This is no Tragedy

When he said he loved me,
I took him in my arms,
And anointed him in holy oil.
When he said he’d save me,
I whispered the secrets,
Of my heart’s own riddles.
When he said he’d be mine,
I bloodied my own hands,
And kissed him as reward.
When he said he’d leave me,
I burned it all down,
And that, I won’t regret.

  1. So visceral and heartbreaking. We can give so much to someone (our thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc) and in the end, it just might not work out. All the promises void, and if they leave and you burn it down, there are no regrets in that—so true. When it’s over, it’s over. Beautifully, beautifully said. ❤

    1. Thank you so much! I tried to capture a certain cold empowerment here, but I hoped that the adoration still came through. I think even burning down one’s love is a sign of love – I just tried to see where the balance felt right.
