midland summer days

I melt away,
To be swallowed by dark soil,
And sleep in long grass.

Broken china cups,
Behind a classroom bookshelf,
Teatime for fairies.

Creaking branches sway,
As cool gusts drink the hot air,
Leaves whisper thank you’s.

Girl taps out her beat,
While Boy dances like a fool,
Laughter in sunshine.

Sweating on the floor,
Arms and legs spread far apart,
Fan spins above, slow.
