Queries Faded In Wood and Stone

The night settled in waves of blue,
As lamps hummed into life renewed,
I found I in the city park,
With heavy heart and mind subdued.

The street lamps cast the bench in dark,
Turning from the luminous spark,
“Am I condemned to be alone?”,
So uttered was my hushed remark.

My query faded into wood and stone,
Unanswered by the great unknown,
Swallowed up by a darkness deep,
It is what I’ve been often shown.

So I stood, back to well-lit streets,
To return to bed, to fall sleep,
Tomorrow I’ll find what I seek.
If not tomorrow, then the week.
