The Arrogance of Time

The arrogance of Time is she presumes to heal,
Promising to numb the pain we hoard and steal,
Gently soothe bloodied souls to once again feel,
Banish cruel memories – her intents ideal.
But I cling to her hand to make my appeal:
“Don’t take away my pains, this lonely ordeal,
They are all that reminds me our past was real.”
